Los Luceros Ranch in Alcalde, New Mexico is a 140 acre property along the Rio Grande. There are several older buildings, including a chapel, that make up the compound. The Main Hacienda as it appears today dates back to the 19th century. Mary Cabot Wheelwright renovated the house in 1924. It was at Los Luceros she began her research that led to the founding of the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian. http://www.wheelwright.org/about.html
When we began the restoration work, the adobe walls were collapsing. The original stone cobble foundation was disappearing into the damp, unstable bosque soil. Extensive structural work was required to save the building. Spears Architects www.spearsarchitects.com designed and directed the work.
